Morning Shift

9:30am - 11:30am

  • Arrive by 9:30 to check in with the shift leader at the garden

  • Prior to farm truck arrival:

    • Assist with set up and cleaning of tables

    • Move empty vegetable and fruit bins from previous Saturday to the garden entrance

  • Once the farm truck arrives:

    • Assist with bringing full bins from the truck to the tables

      • The shift leader will direct set up, generally from heaviest to lightest with vegetable and fruit shares separated

      • If you are unable to carry heavy weights please let your shift leader know and they will give you an alternate job

    • One to two bins per vegetable or fruit should be placed on the tables, all other bins should be placed behind the tables for restock as needed

    • Assist with loading empty bins onto the farm truck

    • Assist with creating chalkboard signs detailing quantity per item in each share, and with large garden front sign

  • During share pick-up:

    • You may be asked to cross names of arriving members off the pick up list and confirm the details of the shares they are picking up

    • You may be asked to help explain pick up procedures to people who are picking up for the first time or on behalf of an absent member

    • Keep bins on table tops fully stocked

    • Remove bins as they are emptied and stack them neatly next to the shed

 

Afternoon Shift

11:45am – 1:15pm

  • Arrive no later than 11:45 to check in with the shift leader at the garden

  • During share pick-up:

    • Keep bins on table tops fully stocked

    • Remove bins as they are emptied and stack them neatly next to the shed

  • Shares are available for pick up until 1:00pm; site breakdown will begin at 1:01pm

    • Assist with packing remaining goods, if any, in boxes for distribution to Los Sures Retirement Community

    • Neatly stack all emptied vegetable and fruit bins next to the shed

    • Clean off chalk boards and front garden signs, and return to storage bin in shed

    • Breakdown tables and store along side the empty farm bins next to the shed

    • Assist with clean up of any trash left behind in the garden

Saturday garden shift


Wednesday Volunteer

Harefield Road

769 Metropolitan Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11211

 

Pick-up Volunteer

6:15pm-8:30pm

  • The shares provided by Hearty Roots will come pre-packaged, and will be set up on long tables at the back of the bar

  • Fruit crates and egg shares will be set up next to the vegetable shares

  • You will receive a list of members and the shares they are picking up prior to the start of pickups

    • You will be asked to cross names of arriving members off the pick up list and confirm the details of the shares they are picking up

  • You will also receive a detail of the fruit shares specific to the pick-up you are covering, and will be asked to communicate this information to members receiving their fruit share

  • Assist with keeping the area neat and walkways clear for bar staff and patrons

  • Thirty minutes prior to the end of pick-up, you will text a reminder to all members who have not picked their share

  • Assist with clean up at end of shift by stacking empty crates and moving them into the bar kitchen area. 

  • Leave labeled shares with the bartender for any member who is able to pick up within one hour of the end of pick up. 

  • You may use your discretion with any unclaimed shares - keep them, give them to the bar staff or patrons as you see fit. 

 

As a reminder, any member who signs up for a shift and does not complete that shift, you will be required to sign up for another shift to meet your volunteer obligation.

WEDNESDAY BAR SHIFT


saturday Driver shift

*Must have own car or car service transportation*

1:00pm

  • Please bring 4-5 tote bags or boxes to transport the leftover shares

  • Arrive by 1:00pm to check in with shift leader and begin loading

  • Bring leftover shares to St. John the Evangelist Church

    • Contact: Reverend Jason or Teresa (his wife) to confirm when you are arriving so they can meet you. 

    • Location: 195 Maujer Street, Brooklyn, NY 11206 (between Humboldt and Graham Ave)


Recipe Shift

 

  • Email 2-3 recipes to eastwilliamsburgcsa@gmail.com

  • Please provide you recipe within six days of your pick up

  • Recipes should be your own or clearly note from whom they are adapted so that proper credit can be provided on our recipe blog. 

  • Please send along photos of your share, process, or finished recipe if possible

    • If you do not have photos, please note that in your email and EWCSA will provide images
